In a new case of smuggling, rising petroleum prices are making petrol, diesel a worthy asset of being smuggled.
A Singapore registerd tugboat carrying 1,500 MT smuggled diesel worth
Rs60 lakh was seized on Tuesday near Jamnagar , The Directorate of
Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has caught five crew of the boat.
As per DRI, the boat had successfully escaped customs officials in
Mumbai before reaching the Jamnagar. Smuggled oil is free from customs
duty, selling it in India is quite a profitable business.
The tug boat is registered to one Cyber Offshore, in the last few
years the Jamnagar customs had foiled five attempts of oil smuggling
along the 800 km large coastline.
