Happy Birthday Jamnagar

Jamnagar is celebrating 473 years, a city known as "Paris of Saurashtra" and princely state has come a long way with rich history of culture and a modern touch thanks to petroleum industries.

A very interesting case of Jamnagar's line of prince is mythic as follows,

Long ago when Jam Rawal founded the city, an astrologer in his royal court advised to build a city near the Nagnath river (current Wellington Crescent, Darbar Gadh). When the royal family fixed a nail in the soil to establish a foundation of the new city the astrologer claimed that the nail had hit a snake (Naag) and is best placed as per the astrology. Many of the courtesans argue on this and when it came to prove the point.

Astrologer pulled the nail from soil and a stream of blood gushed from soil which indicated that it did hit a snake as the astrologer predicted.

Courtesans apologies and requested the astrologer to put the nail back, then the astrologer said that the auspicious time for the foundation is already passed and now this nail can not be planted on snake's head but on its tail. Hence prince of this soil will be at tail and all the kings will be adopted and not born to the kings line.

Dilawar Cycle Store near the Darbar Gadh still has the foundation stone of the same nail, every Jamnagari should visit the store to see the history of Nawanagar.
