In last elections Jamnagar voting share was dismal, with less then 50% of votes, turn of events was predictable, Congress maintained the MP seat. This year Jamnagar and Devbhoomi Dwarka district will surely see a larger voter share, thanks to vibrant social media and the Modi factor. Jamnagar and Devbhoomi Dwarka has total electorate sphere of 15 lakh voters. Jamnagar parliamentary constituency has seven assembly segments, naming Kalavad (SC), Jamnagar Rural, Jamnagar North, Jamnagar South, Jamjodhpur, Khambhaliya and Dwarka.
Cast ratio is very evenly distributed in Jamnagar constituency.
Patels = 3 lakh
Muslims = 1.75 lakh
Aahirs = 1.5 lakh
Rajputs = 1.35 lakh
Satwaras / others = 1 lakh +
BJP and Congress have fielded Aahirs candidates, the Aam Aadmi Party candidate is a Rajput.
BJP:
After defeat of Chandresh Patel in 2004 and Ramesh Mungra in 2009, this time BJP is intending to not to repeat candidates, BJP's candidate is 40-year-old Poonam Maadam, sounds familier, its all in family. She is contesting against her uncle Vikram Maadam. Poonam looked for a Congress ticket in 2012 assembly election, as denied she got a ticket from BJP and won from Khambhaliya seat easily. This time she was promised the MP candidature from Jamnagar constituency by Modi. Modi wave is helping Poonam Maadam.
Congress:
Congress's Champion , Vikram Maadam has always made up the marks, back in 2004 he won by over 6000 votes and in 2009 the margin increased to 26,000. This time however it seems that the Ahir community votes will be divided between Congress and BJP. Vikram claims that he is 30 years younger then Senior BJP leaders.
AAP:
Yes, AAP is in Jamnagar, this new party's candidate may not have his face on his own website but Rajendra Jhala of AAP says he has real issues to take care of. Rajendra Jhala may have backing of around 1.35 Lakh Rajputs, he says common issue being corruption and defence. His son and son-in-law both are in defence.
Only time will tell who will win the Jamnagar Seat.
